The Premiership

Chelsea 3 - 0 Man City

Finally.

Thank heavens for that, its back. The Premiership is back. Nothing like a good round of football fixtures on a weekend.

It wasnt too bad this time around as there was the world cup to keep one ticking over. However, the Prem is the bread and butter. It is obviously the best league in the world. Any arguments to the contrary are simply the words of someone who is not very well informed.

Slightly pissed off cos we lost the charity shield to Liverpool but it doesnt matter as it is to all intents and purposes a friendly. Still, i am getting sick and tired of them beating us in cup competitions. Hopefully that will be the only trophy they win this season.

So after a summer break interspersed with the world cup, the champions returned to Stamford Bridge. Can i just say that i absolutely love love love love love that name. It is a fucking awesome name for a stadium. Old Trafford sounds just that, Old. Emirates, well thats just poor. I know that they paid for part of the stadium but seriously, it is a poor name. When the sponsorship runs out and they start calling it Ashburton Grove, it will still be a crap name. Anfield just sounds boring.

Stamford Bridge. The home of Chelsea Football club. Premiership Champions 2004-2005, 2005-2006.

A fairly comfortable game to start the season with against Man City. The legend that is John Terry opened the scoring with another really good header from a set-piece. I dont know that there is another centreback who scores as many goals. The man is just fucking awesome and England will be stronger now that he's the captain. Lampard got the second goal with the aid of a deflection. Dont know what it is with lampard and deflections but still i suppose if you dont try you'll never know.

The third goal was just too bloody good. Superb team play that started with our centrebacks and pretty much went through all areas of the pitch before some superb work from Robben and Wayne Bridge on the left led to drogs finishing. It was a seriously awesome goal and is without doubt the goal of the month bar none. The thing that annoys me is that cos its Chelsea that scored it, there is little or no praise. If it was Arsenal or some other team, people would be wetting themselves and singing their praises for months on end.

Still, a good win and a very good start to the season. Bring on Middlesborough on Wednesday.
