Clubbing

Listening to Jaheim - just in case (garage mix) - and its got me thinking about my clubbing experiences past and present. In the last 2 years or so, i have not been to an R&B/Hip-hop club and had a smacking good time. The DJ's cant mix for shit, their selections are often appalling and most annoying of all, when they play one track that the crowd loves they either dont play it till the end or follow it up with a really awful track. WTF is up with this, i am convinced that i can get the crowd going better than 99% of DJ's out there. A few years ago (2000-2002) going clubbing was something to look forward to cos the selections were good, you often got 4/5 good tracks back to back and the DJ's mixing was at least average-good.

IMO there are one of 2 possible reasons for the different experiences:

1) The clubs were rubbish all along and i have only realised this cos i'm older
2) They were good but have gotten progressively worse.

While i accept that my getting older has changed my perspective somewhat, i dont think this explains it all. IMO they have gotten worse cos i still have a very good time at house clubs. Somehow House clubs have retained their ass-kicking abilities while R&B/Hip-Hop clubs have lost theirs.
The plus points of house clubs also extend to the absolutely wonderful atmosphere. I have never experienced that kind of atmosphere in an R&B club. Everyone just seems more relaxed and chilled out, this i am sure has a bit to do with the fact that a lot of the clubbers are on E or some other pharmaceutical aid. Still the random chats, strangers acting like your best friends for a few hours and general lack of aggression is markedly different from your standard R&B clubs. The aggression factor is one thing that blights R&B/Hip-Hop clubs. Most R&B clubs i know have had a shooting or some such shit. One of my favourite Hip-Hop/Garage clubs of a few years ago was eventually closed down due to shooting/stabbings. Its a shame as it really was a smackdown of a club but there you go.

In light of all this, House Clubs are the way to go at least for the time being.

maybe its not the clubs but the music? i don't even get hyped when i hear newer music in the clubs anymore. i get hyped only if it's old school like biggie or music from that time period. it's a damn shame i can't go to a club these days and hear something new and be like "i LOVE that song!"

so the djs can't put a string of songs together because four out of five songs suck these days.
