Music

Music is possibly one of the best things about being human. It is a form of expression that so far i am not aware of other animals possessing. If they can then it is a very well kept secret. The inspiration to create music is one that is found in all races and cultures. It is in the human gene to create music.

I think marvin knows a bit about music so i'll take his word for it.

I would like to recommend 2 tracks to all you wonderful people in the blogosphere. But first some caveats.
My taste in music encompasses virtually all kinds of music. The only criteria is that it sounds good, i am an equal opportunities listener. The point is that some of the songs i'll mention will be loved by some and hated by others but such is the way of the world. The only thing i'd say is to not write off a genre of music without giving it a few chances to stake its claim.

The first: Farewell, Hero by Tan Dun.
Composed by Tan Dun & performed by the China Philharmonic Orchestra

This is from the soundtrack for the Movie Hero (2004) which was IMO one of the best movies of that year. Without wishing to spoil it for those who have not seen it, it was used in the last scene of the movie (The body being carried by the soldiers). You can listen to a sample here however i recommend the track in its entirety.
Not so well known perhaps is that the song Tell me by Bobby Valentino draws a lot from this song. Listen to Tan Dun's farewell, hero and listen to Bobby Valentino's Tell me.


The second: Sure thing by St. Germain

I really could be here for a while trying to describe just how good i think this piece of music is. It is from the album Tourist (2000) and it is no exagerration when i say that it is worth buying the album just for this song. The album itself is really good and i cant decsribe it in sufficient words so i wont try. This particular track is jazz like with a very strong bass element, the vocals are really really good IMO. It is really a smackdown, butt kicker.com of a track. You can listen to a sample here but again i recommend the whole track.
